Berlin Youth Commission Summer Programs

The Berlin Youth Commission will once again be sponsoring a three-week recreation/craft program. The year the program will be held at the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church on North Main Street. Our theme this year is Cultures of the World. We will be making crafts from different cultures in our world and enjoying a sampling of a food from the “country of the day.” All food will be nut free, if there are other food allergies make sure they are included in the health form.

The recreation program is available to all children in Berlin (including Cherry Plain) who will be eligible to enter PreK in the fall through age 18.

Since the Berlin 4th of July parade is on the 5th we will be starting the program on Tuesday, unless there are enough children who want to participate in the parade under the Youth Commission. The recreation program will run Monday – Friday beginning July 6, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to noon for three weeks. At this time lunch will not be provided – due to budget cuts and the fact the children did not like most of the free lunches. You are welcome to send a snack but we must keep our program nut free. Please read the enclosed information and return to Tammy Osterhout either through school (this year I am at the Middle/High school) or by mailing to PO Box 35, Berlin, NY 12022. The program is limited to 50 children so return the application by June 19, 2009. If you have any questions I can be reached at 658-2924 after 4:30, please do not call the school with questions.

Swim Program

Mrs. Annette Bell will once again be the Swim Program Director. We are again using the Hoosick Falls Community Pool. The dates will be August 9-20, 2010. We are asking for only children who can attend the full program due to the fact that children cannot “advance” into the next level unless they attend all sessions.

The program is opened to all children who live in the town of Berlin (including Cherry Plain) who are entering kindergarten to age 18 – depending on level of swimming previously completed. As we found out last year – level 7’s were not included so we do not know at this time what levels are being accepted either.

To keep things easier for parents, we are only asking for health information once for youth commission use. Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Osterhout will both maintain confidential files with your child’s medical history. There is also a need to fill out the registration/health information for the Hoosick Falls Community pool. Mrs. Bell has all the swim levels so parents do not need to fill in this information for the pool. The fees are all paid by the youth commission, but we do need to keep the count to the first 60 children registered.

As in past years the bus will leave the Berlin Fire House at 11:00 and return approximately 1:30.
